Beaches bask in awards sunshine for another year

Birling Gap and Pevensey Bay, the only two beaches managed by Wealden District Council, are once again in the swim, having netted the two key UK beach awards, the ENCAMS Seaside Award and a recommendation in the Marine Conservation Society’s Good Beach Guide.

These are important awards for our two rural beaches, which make them great places to visit all the year round,” said Cllr Mrs Pam Doodes, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Health and Public Safety.

A22 litter initiative

Responding to concerns about the amount of litter being left behind by road users, Wealden District Council has launched a concerted effort to improve the state of cleanliness of the main roads through Wealden.

The programme is being run in conjunction with East Sussex County Council Highways Department which is currently carrying out its ‘Visibly Better Roads’ initiative.
The Wealden initiative has begun by focusing on the A22 from Willingdon to Forest Row, but will also be carrying out trials on other main roads.

New Wildlife Art adds to Cuckoo Trail attractions

In the second Public Art project to be launched in November, Wealden District Council has unveiled a Wildlife Art Trail to run along the Cuckoo Trail.

The Wildlife Art Trail is aimed at all the family, and illustrates Wealden District Council’s commitment to making art accessible to all.

Earlier this month the Council unveiled new safety railings at Horam, designed and made by local blacksmith Eric Lamprell.

Support for Uckfield’s Millennium Green

Wealden District Council has agreed a grant of £3,000 for a three year programme of improvements to Uckfield Millennium Green.

The money, from the Council’s Environmental Enhancement Fund, will help towards providing educational material, new fencing, a pond-dipping platform and maintaining a watercress bed.
