Agenda and Minutes
The
Agenda is a list and order of things that will happen during the
meeting. Copies of
detailed reports from the officers are attached to this.
Copies of the Agenda are available on the seats set aside
for the public. You
can also see the Agenda before the meeting at local libraries or
collect a copy from the Council
Offices for which a charge will be made.
Confidential Items
The
majority of the Council's business and that of Cabinet and others
is conducted in open public session. However, if there are
items that need to be discussed in private session, the Committee/Cabinet
are able to vote to exclude the public and press from the meeting.
These items are usually at the end of the Agenda.
The reasons for excluding the public and press are laid down
in law and must be given to the public.
Having Your Say
You can have your say on an issue before it goes to committee by discussing it with your Ward Councillor, Councillors on the Committee or by sending comments to the relevant Council department.
You can attend the Cabinet and Committee meetings and listen to the discussion. However you are only able to ask questions at the Full Council meeting.
Officers
Officers are paid employees of the Council. The role of an officer attending the Cabinet or Committee meetings is to offer professional advice to Councillors before decisions are made and to implement the decisions and exercise certain powers delegated to them by the Council. The elected Members make the decisions. A committee clerk also attends to take notes and record the outcomes of each meeting.
