New licensing hours can be found on the web

Details about the extended licenses hours for all pubs, clubs and halls in Wealden can now be found on the Wealden web site www.wealden.gov.uk.

“There’s been a lot of hype about the new licensing hours in the national media. Members of the public who want to know to what time a local pub is allowed to sell alcohol or play music can get the information from the Wealden Licensing Register through our web site,” explained Councillor Jim Hollins, chairman of the Liquor and Entertainments Licensing Committee. “This gives full details of the permitted hours throughout the week when alcohol can be sold from each listed premises. It also lists the hours for dancing, and playing live and recorded music.”

While the new licensing act states permitted times, public houses and other venues are under no compulsion to remain open until then. The legislation allows licensees to make their own judgment within the allowed limits.

If residents are concerned that a certain premises may be breaking its own permitted licensing hours, they should contact Wealden’s licensing and pollution control team on 01323 443555, or the local police. The out-of-hours number for noise pollution incidents is 01323 443666.

Since the licensing responsibility was transferred to Wealden in February, the District Council has had to determine applications for 510 premises as well as 643 personal license applications, which are also necessary under the new legislation. Some 320 premises in Wealden have taken the opportunity to vary their opening hours in the application process.

All public libraries in Wealden have facilities where the public can access the internet. The web-based Licensing Register can also be accessed at the Wealden Community Help Points at Vicarage Lane, Hailsham and Pine Grove Crowborough.
