Have your say about planning in Wealden

Wealden residents are invited to a series of  ‘Drop-In’ events across the district to talk about how they would like to be involved in planning the future of Wealden.

“We have just started work on the Local Development Framework which will decide where new growth takes place in the district over the next 20 years,”

said Councillor Keith Whitehead, Cabinet member for Planning and Regeneration.

“As the population grows, and its age profile changes, we will need to think about the need for schools, roads, health facilities, houses and employment opportunities, while at the same time protecting the outstanding natural heritage of the area”.

“We want to hear your views, but first we need to know how best we can consult with you and keep you informed.”

The Council is seeking people’s opinion about using email, the internet other forms of messaging in consultations.  It is keen to learn the best way to organise public meetings and to seek participants for focus groups to discuss specific planning proposals in their area.

The Council would also like people’s view about the best way of keeping them informed about local planning applications.

“Thanks to the internet and mobile phones, there have been major changes in the way we can communicate with each other.  We want to make it easier for the public to keep involved in this important planning process,” said Councillor Whitehead.
