Village play project needs your vote
Wealden residents are being urged to support a local village play project in the Big Lottery Fund head-to-head phone vote on November 14th.
“Laughton is looking to win £50,000 worth of Big Lottery funding in order to build a play ground at the Pelham Field in the village. At the moment children have to be driven to the nearest purpose-built playground,“ said Councillor Mrs Margaret Kirkpatrick, Cabinet Member for Housings & Community Development at Wealden District Council.
“We are urging Wealden to get behind this scheme, the only one from the district to be in this year’s People’s Millions phone battle, which aims to give the public a direct say in where up to £15 million of Lottery money goes.”
The Pelham Play Project seeks to provide zoned all-weather play areas for children aged from pre-school to teenagers. On November 14th it will be competing against a project for youngsters in Eastbourne.
Wealden residents can find out how to vote on November 14th by:
- Watching Meridian South East News at 6pm.
- Looking at the Big Lottery Website www.biglottery.org.uk/peoplesmillions from 9 am.
- Looking in the November 14 issue of the Daily Mirror.
There will be a special telephone number for people to take part in the phone vote, but it will only be published on November 14th.
Success for the Pelham Play Project would complement the work Wealden is doing through the Children’s Play Initiative. The Council is examining a number of schemes from the district in order to put together a formal bid for a £237,000 of Big Lottery money next March. This part of the Big Lottery Play Initiative looks to local authorities to work in partnership with local organisations to improve play facilities. These will allow children to explore their own ability through play together with other children in a safe but challenging environment.
