Success for Wealden’s Cricketers’
The Cricketers’ Arms at Berwick has become the 20th holder of an Only The Best Award, Wealden’s prestigious food hygiene award.
"I was bowled over by the service and food at the Cricketers’,” said Councillor Mrs Pam Doodes, Cabinet member for Health & Public Safety. “If England’s cricketers can match their achievements, they should be able to win back the Ashes in 2009."
The Only The Best Award is for excellence in food safety. It is for all types of food businesses, restaurants, pubs, takeaways, canteens and food shops. But to earn the award they must have excellent standards of food hygiene AND recognise that looking after their customers is important to their business. Well-trained staff and a real commitment to customer care are as much a qualification as a careful attention to hygiene and cleanliness.
“We want the Only The Best Award to give customers the confidence that what goes on behind the scenes matches a great experience awaiting them at the table or counter,” said Councillor Mrs Doodes.
“Enjoying good food is an important part of everyone’s lives. The benefits of good nutrition and the experience of sharing food together should be taken seriously.”
Other recent winners of the award are Speldhurst Sausages from Eridge; The Sugarmouse Sweetshop, Uckfield, The Priory Grange, Heathfield; and the Warren Drive Residential Home, Crowborough.
Restaurants and food businesses who have earned the award can display an Only The Best window sticker and are featured on the Only the Best website – www.wealden-otb.co.uk. This provides customer information about the location and gives details on many facilities including healthy eating alternatives, child-friendly facilities, and use local or organic produce.
“We’re always on the look out for businesses that could get the award,” said Councillor Mrs Doodes. “And we know there are a lot more businesses in Wealden that have great hygiene and customer care.”
