Free electric blanket testing.

Every year over 2,000 fires are caused by faulty electric blankets in the UK. Wealden District Council is providing electric blanket testing in the first week of October to help safeguard residents.

“Last year Wealden tested 463 blankets and a chilling 49 per cent of blankets failed the safety checks,” said Councillor Mrs Pam Doodes, Cabinet Member for Public Health and Community Safety.

“There are bound to be more dangers lying on people’s beds this year.  So please come along with your blanket to one of our testing sessions - however new the blanket may be – and make sure yours isn’t one of them.”

Testing sessions are being held at a number of different venues in the Wealden area.  It is a free service open to all, and includes additional information and advice about energy efficiency, benefits, home improvements, pensions and fire prevention.
