Affordable Homeownership Options in Wealden
Rising interest rates and soaring house prices can be a recipe for despair if you are looking to have a place of your own.
But buying a property out-right or with 100% mortgage need not be the only way to get your feet on the property ladder.
Wealden District Council and Moat Housing Group have organised an Affordable Homeownership Options drop-in day at Hailsham on Tuesday July 10 to discuss the government-led HomeBuy initiative.
HomeBuy offers first time buyers a range of options including:
· Open Market Home buy – a loan on 75% of a property’s value, with the remaining amount met by lenders and the government.
· New Build HomeBuy – allows new homes to be purchased on a part buy / part rent basis.
Priority is given to council tenants, housing association tenants, key workers and other first time buyers.
The Affordable Housing Options drop-in day will be held at Wealden District Council offices, Vicarage Lane, Hailsham from 10 am to 4pm on Tuesday July 10.
“Wealden is a very attractive place to live but in recent years house prices have soared far ahead of many people’s incomes. The HomeBuy scheme brings some fresh thinking to the problems of home ownership. These are well-worth exploring if you are looking to get a foot on the housing ladder,” said Councillor Margaret Kirkpatrick, Wealden’s Cabinet member for Housing.
The latest average house price figures from the Land Registry show that, over the past year, prices in East Sussex have increased by 8.3 per cent. This brings the average price of a home in the area to £195,118.
