Emergency Plan passes the test
Wealden’s Emergency Plan passed the test last month during the torrential rains of July 20.
“The Emergency Plan and the processes for dealing with incidents of flooding worked well, both on Friday July 20 and over the subsequent weekend,” said Councillor Claire Dowling, Cabinet member for Corporate Services.
“On July 20, up to 60mm of rain fell in two hours in parts of Wealden, and the Council played an important role then, and in the days that followed, supporting householders and businesses who had to deal with the consequences of flash flooding, and preparing for possible further incidents.
“Wealden’s staff were quick to provide extra sandbags when they were requested and helped with the clearing of blocked water courses, and as the water subsided, the clearing of debris. We also prepared emergency accommodation for a number of families which, I am pleased to say, was not needed,” added Cllr Dowling in a report to last Wednesday’s Cabinet meeting of Wealden District Council.
“I would like to thank the emergency services and the Council’s own staff for the way they responded in Uckfield and other parts of the district.”
