Free electric blanket testing
Free electric blanket testing returns to Wealden visiting ten different venues during week beginning October 15.
Last year’s electric blanket blitz saw nearly 400 blankets tested, of which nearly half (48% ) failed to meet adequate safety standards.
Each year faulty electric blankets are the cause of over 1000 UK house fires, and result in some 20 deaths and 250 injuries.
“Electric blankets should be tested at least every three years, and you should always check the blanket, plug and wiring when you bring them out in the autumn,” said Councillor Sylvia Tidy, Cabinet Member for Community Development.
“The electric blanket testing sessions are a great place to catch up on some of the latest offers available to make your home safer, more energy efficient and easier to run, so do try to come along.”
Every session includes free advice and information on fire prevention, home adaptations and improvements, energy efficiency and home security; making for a really worthwhile visit.
Project partners include East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service, Anchor Staying Put, parish and town councils, Department of Work and Pensions, East Sussex Downs and Weald Primary Care Trust, Wealden Benefits Department and Care for the Carers.
This is a partnership project co-ordinated by Wealden District Council. For the first time, Waitrose joins the sponsors, alongside the Safer Wealden Partnership and East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service.
