Arts festival has plenty going on

Access All Areas, the East Sussex Youth Arts Festival supported by Wealden District Council, is taking place over the weekend of October 19-21. It provides a wide range of creative events and workshops for Wealden’s young people.

It is being held at the De La Warr Pavilion on Bexhill sea front and the line up includes dance, music, DJ-ing, VJ-ing, circus skills, MC-ing, theatre, performance, visual art, photography, graffiti, film, installation workshops, performances and exhibitions. Groups taking part include Rythymix, Youth Music, Globang, Gizmo, the DIY Theatre, Urban Moves and Evolution Theatre.

Access All Areas is an East Sussex Arts Partnership initiative and is backed by Wealden District Council, East Sussex County Council, Arts Council England South East and the local authorities of Eastbourne, Hastings, Lewes and Rother.

“By working in partnership with other authorities, we have been able to attract a range of quality acts and activities for this weekend event at Bexhill,” said Councillor Mrs Margaret Kirkpatrick, Cabinet member for Housing and Young People for Wealden District Council.

“The Festival, now in its second year, places great emphasis on getting young people involved in the latest forms of arts and electronic creativity. There is so much going on.”

Sound Architect will be holding a film workshop at the Festival on the Saturday October 20, and on Friday and Saturday, BBC Blast will be offering young people the chance to get involved in its own particular brand of art, film, dance, new media and music creativity. The finale for this weekend of events on Sunday evening, October 21, will be a performance by the Bexhill band, Mumm Ra, who appeared at this year’s Glastonbury Festival.

A full version of the programme can be downloaded from the De La Warr Pavilion’s website, or Access All Area’s Myspace page.

Tickets cost £3 per day for workshops and performances or £5 for all three days, and this includes a special reduced ticket price for the Mumm Ra gig. Tickets for Mumm Ra are on general sale at £10.

Stage Coach Buses will be providing discounted travel to the Festival.
