2012 – is it that time already?

2012 may be here sooner than we think. Already many business are starting to prepare for the economic opportunities that hosting the Olympic Games in this country will bring.

And that’s not just national companies. With every country in the world descending on Britain, it could also mean opportunities for smaller businesses in Wealden, particularly with the District’s proximity to London.

Wealden District Council’s next Business Breakfast on Tuesday November 13 will be working in partnership with Business

Link to provide an introduction to the London 2012 Games. It will help local businesses to make the most of business and training opportunities in the lead up to London 2012.

Expert speakers include Paul Toben, Business Link programme manager for the London 2012 Games, and Cat Carkeet, Sussex Skills Co-ordinator for Tourism South East (TSE).

Paul Toben will be introducing CompeteFor – a new service for accessing sub-contracts with first tier contractors who have won major contracts for the London 2012 Games. He will explain in detail how companies can benefit from being part of CompeteFor and how the registration and bidding processes work.

Cat Carkeet will be detailing how TSE is working with local businesses to ensure a world class visitor experience in preparation for London 2012. There will also be a chance to hear about training opportunities with TSE and to share what you want to see delivered in the run up to the 2012 Games.

“The Olympic Games may still seem a long way off, but the businesses who plan ahead and get in first will be the ones best placed to reap the eventual benefits,” said Councillor Pam Doodes, Leader, Wealden District Council.

The November 13 Business Breakfast is being held at the East Sussex National Golf Resort & Spa, Little Horsted, near Uckfield, starting at 7.30 and finishing at 11 am. Costs are £10 per head, including full English breakfast and drinks.

Wealden Business Breakfasts provide an excellent opportunity for informal networking with other local business people.

There is also the ‘Name Exchange’ table where you can leave your business card or brochures for others to pick up.

Places are limited, so if you would like to attend, please contact the Economic Development & Tourism Team on 01892 602887 or email regeneration@wealden.gov.uk no later than Wednesday November 7, 2007.

The event is being subsidised by Wealden District Council & Business Link Sussex.
