Youth has sound system confiscated
A Wealden youngster was fined and had his sound equipment confiscated for continuing to disturb his neighbour with loud music after receiving repeated warnings.
The youngster, who cannot be named because he is under 18, had received a number of written warnings from Environmental Protection Officers at Wealden District Council. When he continued to disturb neighbours with the volume of the Drum and Bass music he played, a noise abatement notice was served. His breach of this notice resulted in his sound equipment being seized by Wealden officers. On his subsequent appearance before Lewes Magistrates Youth Court, the youngster admitted the breaches of the noise abatement notice.
“Playing music too loud can greatly disrupt other people’s lives,” said Councillor Sylvia Tidy, Cabinet member for Community Development. “Most people do try to be considerate, once they realise what effect their leisure activities are having on their neighbours. But people who continue to ignore their neighbour’s rights must face the consequences of the law.”
“I hope this is a salutary lesson to all those, young or old, who make life a misery for their neighbours. We can and will prosecute.”
