A better place to park
After extensive re-surfacing work, South Road Car Park has been re-opened to the public.
“Hailsham now has maximum car park availability for the busy run up to Christmas. It’s a very good reason to do your shopping closer to home this Christmas,” said Councillor Bob Standley, Cabinet member for Finance and Assets.
“Improvement work to the Vicarage Lane car park has also been completed. Parking provision at Hailsham is now at an all-time high, and will remain so until Easter when the North Street car park will be handed over to contractors as work begins on the new superstore. It will eventually result in a new 303 space car park on the North Street site.”
Previously users of the South Road car park had to make do with an unfinished surface. As well as a tarmac surface, South Road car park has new lighting and a redesigned entrance to ensure it can only used by cars and vans, and not commercial lorries.
South Road Car park is close to the Hailsham town centre, but it is also an excellent location to start exploring the Cuckoo Trail, the 11 miles of footpath and cycle way which runs from Heathfield to Polegate.
Dedicated footpaths, traffic speed bumps and a special drop-off area have been installed in the Vicarage Lane car park to make it safer for children and families who will be using the new primary school, which is being built next to Vicarage Lane, to replace the White House Primary School.
