New school needs careful drivers

Users of Hailsham's Vicarage Lane car park are being asked to take particular care when using the car park from April 21, when the new White House Primary School in Marshfoot Lane opens.

The Vicarage Lane car park will be used by as the main access point for the school pupils. Improvements, including designated pedestrian walkways, new crossing points and speed bumps, will make it much safer for both pedestrians and motorists; but users are urged to take special care in the first few weeks of the school's opening to allow time for pupils and parents to become familiar with the new layout and route.

Parents bringing and picking up children from the new drop-off point at the west of the car park are also reminded drive with care in the car park.

"I'm sure many children will be excited at the prospect of a new school, but they will be unfamiliar with the surroundings. It is important all users of the Vicarage Lane car park take extra care in the coming weeks in order to prevent accidents," said Councillor Bob Standley, Cabinet member for Finance and Assets.

The Council's Community Officers and the school will be patrolling the Vicarage Lane car park to ensure that all users respect and comply with the rules of the car park.

As part of the continuing development of the town centre, Hailsham's North Street car park, is to close at midnight on Sunday April 13, 2008. As from that time the public will not be allowed to park there. Any vehicles still in the car park after that time will be on private property and will be subject to removal.
