Celebrate Play! All ages welcome

Wealden District Council and its leisure partner, Freedom Leisure, have organised an exciting Playday event on August 6 at Maurice Thornton Playing Fields, Vega Close, next to Hailsham Children's Centre. It will run from 10 am to 2 pm.
August 6 is National Playday, which will see events all across the country providing a chance for children to come together to celebrate the importance of play.

The emphasis will be on fun, but it also aims to promote physical activity and healthy food. Among the many activities will be:

Skateboarding

Messy Play
Climbing wall

Water play
Cooking

Football
Under 5's play

Junior Gym
Face painting

Fire engine
Police car

"Active play is such an important part of the lives of youngsters," said Councillor Ron Cussons, Cabinet member for Community.

"Obesity levels have trebled in the last 20 years and a staggering 20 per cent of 5 year olds are now obese. Active play is key in helping to tackle this growing problem."

The event co-ordinated by Wealden District Council and Freedom Leisure is a partnership project supported by Sussex Police, East Sussex Downs and Wealden Primary Care Trust, East Sussex Fire and Rescue, Children's Fire and Burns Trust, Active Play and East Sussex County Council.
