Housing Land Assessment

Wealden District Council is seeking to identify potential land that may be suitable for housing development as part of its Local Development Framework planning process.

"It is important that we assess what potential land there is in the district  for future housing needs. This is part of the long term planning process which will guide the development of the district over the next 20 years," said Councillor Roy Galley, Cabinet member for Strategic Planning and Housing Delivery.

"It will result in a report outlining the potential amount of land available in the District for housing development.  However, I want to stress that just because a site is included in the Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment (SHLAA), it does not necessarily  mean that the site will be allocated for housing now, or in the future. It is for the Local Development Framework process to select sites for Wealden's future development through a process of site appraisal and assessment."

The Council is now inviting landowners, agents or people who know of any site that may be suitable for housing, to take part in the SHLAA by submitting details of potential sites for consideration.

Wealden has already produced a draft document outlining its procedure for identifying  potential  housing land. This SHLAA draft methodology document is now available for consultation on the Wealden web site. Views on the Council's adopted methodology should be submitted to Wealden District Council by 12 noon on 7 September.

An online form to be used for submitting potential housing sites is available for download with guidance notes on the website

Completed forms and an accompanying site map should be emailed to the Council at ldf@wealden.gov.uk or posted to: SHLAA Consultation, Planning Policy, Wealden District Council, Pine Grove, Crowborough TN6 1DH.

Potential sites should be submitted by 3 October 2008 to be included in the Council's first comprehensive Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment.
