Advice about keeping Horses
Occasionally we receive complaints of odour, noise or flies from the keeping of horses. Following a few simple guidelines can avoid problems when keeping your own horse:
- ensure the area of land you have available is large enough to accommodate the horse and provide adequate grazing
- if your horse is stabled, do not burn the wet straw or shavings from the stable waste
- manure heaps should be kept away from ponds, ditches and boundaries with neighbours' houses
- site stables and loose boxes well away from neighbours houses and gardens
