Air pollution
The Council issues permits which specify requirements to control pollution from certain industrial processes. The Environment Agency issues similar permits for larger processes such as power stations and large metal foundries.
The Council is responsible for Local Authority Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control (LA IPPC). This covers:
1) Installations known as A2 installations (referred to as A(2) in the PPC Regulations)
2) Local authority Pollution Prevention and Control (LAPPC), which covers installations known as Part B installations.
Guidance on the Local Authority Air Pollution Prevention and Control.
The Department of Environment Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) issues the guidance notes for individual processes and these can be accessed via:
www.defra.gov.uk/environment/ppc/localauth/pubs/guidance/notes/index.htm
A list of the fees for each of the processes can be accessed via:

If you feel your process may need a permit to operate, please contact us directly for further advice and assistance in obtaining a permit.
You can print the ncessary permit application form here. (pdf, 827kb)
Operating a prescribed process without a permit is an offence. You should therefore be aware that the Council has powers within the legislation to prosecute, if the process continues without a relevant permit.
