Should your collection day fall on one of these days throughout the year find out when your bin will be collected.
Should the container(s) go missing after the collection or if they are damaged in anyway i.e. lid broken or bin is split, you can order a replacement container. Wheelie bins remain the property of Wealden District Council and must be left at the property if you move.

Can I have a second bin for my landfill waste?
Extra containers for household waste are available but a charge is made for the hire and weekly collection of the bin.
Where and when should I place my bin out for collection?
Please ensure the appropriate container(s) are placed out for collection at the edge of your property (or other specified area) by 7am on the collection day, and are clearly visible. If in doubt place them out the night before.
Residents who live in communal properties such as flats or where designated bin collection areas have been built, may be provided with larger communal containers for the landfill collection instead. These will normally be collected from the location where they are kept.
Will the collection crews take more than 1 bin of landfill waste or bags left at the side of the bin?
Only landfill waste contained within your wheelie bin will be taken - Although the lid does not need to be completely shut, the crews are instructed to leave excessive bags of landfill waste that are piled on top or left at the side of the container. Additional landfill waste and bulky items should be taken to a Household Waste Recycling Site for recycling/disposal.
Are there any types of waste that are prohibited from the wheelie bin?
The following materials and similar substances can not be placed in the wheelie bin, as they may cause damage to the bin, the collection vehicle and/or the environment. They may also cause injury to the crews.

Following the new WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) directive you should no longer place any electrical item in your landfill bin. The new law states that retailers and manufacturers are responsible for dealing with electrical goods once they become waste. They are encouraged to make more durable, repairable and recyclable electrical goods, as well as pay for more recycling sites for consumers. |
Some shops will take the items back when you purchase a new one. Alternatively, they should be taken to one of the Household Waste Recycling Sites where they will be recycled in accordance to the new directive. |

My bins been missed, what should I do?
Occasionally the collection crews are unable to gain access to a road due to obstructions, for example parked cars. If this happens they will try to return later in the day, but if they are still unsuccessful, please leave your bin out and they will be collected as soon as possible. If however, your bin appears to be the only one not collected please contact us as soon as possible so arrangements to return can be made.
Do you provide Commercial/trade waste collections?
Your non domestic rates do not include a landfill waste collection. However, collections from businesses are available at a charge through our Direct Services Organisation. There are also several other companies who operate a similar service but you need to ensure that they are a registered waste carrier and that you receive a duty of care certificate. Any waste arising from the operation of a business must not be placed into your domestic wheelie bin. For further information on businesses including recycling please visit the business help website.
What are East Sussex County Council responsible for?
East Sussex County Council are the Disposal Authority. They are responsible for providing the Household Waste Recycling Sites where residents can recycle/dispose of their household waste. This includes items such as fridges/freezers and garden waste. East Sussex County Council along with Brighton and Hove are also responsible for producing the Waste Local Plan. This sets out a strategy for future waste management and planning in East Sussex and Brighton and Hove and encourages a shift away from disposal towards more sustainable methods of treatment.
