The SWP Supports the ‘PAYBACK SCHEME’
The Safer Wealden Partnership (SWP), is very happy to support, through the Joint Action Group, the funding of identified workers, enlisted on Wealden District Councils ‘Payback Scheme’.
This is a scheme run throughout the Wealden area whereby, offenders convicted at Court, are tasked with unpaid work, within our communities, as part of their punishment and rehabilitation.
The team have been tasked under the supervisory guidance of a senior member of Wealden District Council, to plan in advance where they are needed to work. Many of the ‘clean-up’ projects are making a considerable and very pleasant improvement to many areas of our community.
The Safer Wealden Partnership supports the teams most recent taskings which were to paint anti-graffiti paint on Public Convenience doors to deter unsightly graffiti being displayed. The SWP provided the funds for the purchase of this special paint which is particularly resistant to graffiti and which has been applied very successfully to deter vandalism.
The Payback Team have also worked very hard with rubbish clearance which is proving to be a real success story and will be duplicated throughout Wealden, as and when time is allocated for Sunday working. Other works continue for this group which is very much in demand.
Quote from Sergeant Dave Price, “It is known that once this type of graffiti starts inside public toilets, it can quickly escalate, making the walls unsightly and offensive to some people. The Payback Team are now able to remove the graffiti, and I am hopeful that the new paint will make it extremely difficult for anyone to apply fresh writing”.
