The SWP and ESCC join forces to deter travellers at Bay Tree Lane, Polegate
The Safer Wealden Partnership through the Joint Action Group have funded the erection of a 100 metre earth bund on the Southern and Northern boundaries of the carriageway. This will both enhance and protect the amenity of Bay Tree Lane, Polegate. The recent erection of the earth bund has been built to prevent further unauthorised encampments and deter the illegal activity known as fly-tipping. Bay Tree Lane has attracted, in the past twelve months, five unauthorised traveller sites and it has also been a target for fly-tippers. These activities have had an adverse impact upon the area causing concern to residents.
Quote from Wealden Sergeant Dave PRICE states “Unauthorised and illegal camping and parking on Council land can at times be a real problem within the Wealden area. Often the land is left in a poor condition when it is vacated, which necessitates additional expense to restore it. Such illegal parking and camping can also cause considerable distress to local residents.
We have worked in partnership with East Sussex County Council, and our aim here is to make this piece of land inaccessible for such activities. We are grateful for the assistance of East Sussex County Council regarding this matter.”
