Anti-Theft Number Plate Screws

Following the recent increase in the number of thefts of car registration plates, Sussex Police, supported by the Safer Wealden Partnership, Halfords and TR Fastenings of Uckfield, arranged two sessions over the weekend of April 14th and 15th, whereby members of the public could bring their cars and have their number plate fixings replaced with special anti-theft bolts or screws. The fittings were supplied by TR Fastenings of Uckfield, and fitted by staff at Halfords, in the town.

The event was well attended, and many motorists have now the added security of knowing that their registration plates are much more resistant to theft.

Quote from Sergeant Dave Price, “I am grateful to TR Fastenings who kindly supplied the fittings, and to Halfords for supplying the facilities and labour to enable us to run the event. Number plate theft can be a real problem for the victims, as the stolen plates often end up on vehicles which are used in crime. The legitimate owner of the plates can then have real problems sorting the issue out. Anything which reduces this has to be a good thing.”

Quote from Neighbourhood Constable, PC Paul Stephens, who ran the event, “I am pleased with the results. We had a good turnout, and we were also able to give a lot of crime prevention advice. I would also like to remind people that if they missed the event, and would like some anti-theft screws to use themselves, we have a supply available at police stations across the Wealden district.”
