Supporting People - supporting independence at home
'Supporting People' is a Government programme which helps adults who need particular kinds of support connected to their housing needs. This support is aimed at helping people to achieve independence within their community. An emergency phone system, for example, might help someone stay safe in their own home.
The Supporting People team in East Sussex is based within Adult social care and works closely with a range of other organisations, including local authorities and the Probation Service. Decisions about funding Supporting People services are taken jointly by all the agencies concerned.
Organisations providing services for Supporting People are paid under contract, which means that factors such as quality and value for money can be closely monitored. The team also give support and advice to other organisations in promoting new projects and ideas.
