Democratic Services Trainee

Salary range £18,651 - £22,167

(Bar to progression at £20,520)

Based in Crowborough, East Sussex

Would you be interested in training as a Democratic Services Administrator?

You will work in an environment that is at the hub of local democracy. You will be trained to support our democratically elected councillors through the servicing of a range of member meetings (in particular regulatory meetings), and assist in the publication of agendas, reports and minutes, both in hardcopy and electronically on the Council’s Intranet & Internet. You will also be involved in a variety of member support services, plus a range of interesting administrative duties (including  assisting in the preparation of Local Democracy Week events held annually at the Schools and Colleges throughout Wealden).

As you will be regularly working with councillors, members of the public and senior officers, excellent oral and written skills are essential. It would be an advantage if you had some public sector and administrative experience  with the ability to pay attention to detail and be able to work to tight schedules with a minimum of supervision.  Computer literacy and a minimum of 5 GCSEs, (grade C and above) including Mathematics and English (or equivalent); and relevant A-levels (or equivalent) will be essential. This post would particularly suit a graduate with an interest in local government and politics.

You will be encouraged to undertake a Council sponsored course of study leading to a suitable professional qualification.

Benefits include Private Health Insurance, final salary pension scheme, andflexible working hours.  Clean full driving licence essential.
