Recycling Directory
Recycling has many benefits, but the most important way of dealing with waste is to reduce the amount we create in the first place. This is not so easy as recycling but there are hundreds of ways to contribute and most of us already do so through simple steps such as donating goods to charity or participating in supermarket ‘bag for life’ schemes.
This directory aims to provide details of how to recycle the more commonly used items. If you have an item that you would like to try to recycle that is not on our list then please visit Waste Online, which provides a wider range of recyclable materials.
In addition to the details in the A-Z Directory there is a non-profit organisation called Freecycle which allows you to advertise any item which could be used again by other people instead of adding to the landfill sites. The only condition of the site is that anything advertised must be free. You may also see something advertised that you could make use of!
A local resident in Forest Row has set up a website called Forest Row.org which includes a FreCycle forum. This forum allows residents to offer items they no longer need and request items they might want, for free. The forum is similar to Freecycle but has a local emphasis to minimise transportation of goods and therefore reduces CO2 emissions.
If you item is in good working order, why not try advertising it in the local newspaper or put an ad in your local shop windows.
- Courier newspapers (ads are free for items under £1000 or free): 01892 684343
- Friday-Ad (ads are free for items under £50 or free): 0870 162 8000
