Council Tax Bill - Frequently Asked Questions

Why has my bill gone up?

Wealden District Council, East Sussex County Council, East Sussex Fire Service and Sussex Police Authority have frozen their council tax for 2011/12. If your bill is more than last year, it is probably because your town or parish council has increased their precept. More information on this can be found in the leaflet that was sent with your bill.

Can I pay my bill online?

Yes using our online payment system: Pay your Council Tax Online.

I told you a while ago that my circumstances have changed. It doesn't seem that you've taken this into account on my bill.

It is possible that we haven't had a chance to deal with your change yet but if you have told us, we will send you an adjustment notice if the amount you have to pay changes.

I can't afford this bill. What should I do?

Firstly, you need to let us know so please contact us using the details below. There are things that we can do to help but we'll need to talk to you so we can make sure you get the right help. It might be that you are entitled to a benefit or if you're struggling to make ends meet generally, we can put you in touch with other organisations that will help you.

I have to pay on the 15th of each month but this isn't convenient for me. What can I do?

If you arrange to pay by direct debit, you can pay on the 1st, 15th or 25th of each month. We can set these up over the phone and soon you'll be able to complete a form online.
