Wealden District Council, East Sussex County Council and Pub is the Hub (PITH) are working together to encourage and support pubs who want to expand into new services for their communities. Pub is the Hub is an organisation of voluntary advisors for licensees of rural pubs who are thinking of broadening their range of services. They encourage licensees, communities, pub owners, breweries, local authorities and the private sector to work together to match community needs with additional services which can be provided by the local pub.

If you are part of PITH you will be entitled to some funding to diversify your pub. PITH is not about saving uneconomic pubs, but is there as the lender of last resort to assist pubs to develop their business further to ensure viability.

We have worked with various pubs across the District to help them diversify, here are a few ideas:

  • Small library in The Royal Oak and Castle in Pevensey
  • Worked with Barclays Digital Eagles - 7 week computer course in The Foresters in Fairwarp and The Royal Oak and Castle in Pevensey
  • Worked with Applause to set up performances in rural pubs. This will expand more due to a successful funding bid from The Arts Council for Applause.
  • Take a look at our recent Pub Is The Hub Newsletter April 2018 (pdf) which highlights all the work which has taken place in Wealden since working with Pub is the Hub.

Here are some more ideas on how your pub could get involved and work within your community more:
