The Council gives high priority to enforcing planning control and is very supportive of the service we provide, which is informed by growing environmental concerns and the expectations of our residents.

This post is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to progress their career in Planning as you will have the opportunity to obtain practical knowledge of the work of the Enforcement team in the preparation of enforcement reports on planning and other breaches arising from enforcement investigations/ consultations. You will need excellent communication skills as this role involves advising applicants, agents and members of the public on Planning Enforcement matters and consulting and negotiating with members of the public to achieve an outcome that is acceptable to all parties. You will also be required to undertake regular monitoring of sites to ensure compliance with conditions imposed on planning permissions and to take appropriate enforcement action.

At Planning Officer level this post requires a relevant degree/diploma in Town and Country Planning with a couple of years planning experience in a Local Authority or Consultancy background. However we would also consider someone with a Degree or Diploma in Town and Country Planning and previous experience in a similar environment looking to gain wider experience and a deeper understanding of planning issues at Assistant Planning Officer level with the associated pay scale.

In addition you will need good IT and organisational skills together with an enthusiasm to contribute towards shaping the Wealden of the future whilst conserving the character and natural beauty of the area.

We offer an excellent package, including competitive salary, career average salary pension scheme, an employee benefit scheme offering a range of discounts and salary sacrifice schemes, flexitime and discounted leisure centre membership.

Wealden District Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults, and expects all employees and volunteers to share this commitment.
