The Great Wealden Spring Clean 2018

Media Release : 31 January 2018

It’s spring again and Wealden District Council is launching the Great British Spring Clean across the District over the weekend of 2-4 March to clear up the litter that blights our environment.

Great British Spring Clean

“This is the third year that the Council has supported the campaign, the response from our communities has been incredible and is increasing each time,” said Councillor Roy Galley, portfolio holder for Waste and Economic Development. “Like others, I have been shocked by images shown in the BBC’s Blue Planet documentary of marine life struggling to cope with plastics and other litter. I am sure there are many of us in Wealden who will want to do their bit towards making a cleaner planet.”
“We are supporting our ever-growing army of litter heroes with litter picking equipment and special edition refuse bags. Our waste contractor, Kier, is helping out by donating some of the litter-picking equipment and providing a special waste collection service. We want this year to be even bigger and better than before and we are encouraging as many individuals, groups and organisations as possible to take part.”
To take part in the campaign, register your event or find an event near you on the Great British Spring Clean website at www.greatbritishspringclean.org.uk. For information on the support available from Wealden District Council visit www.wealden.gov.uk/springclean , email springclean@wealden.gov.uk or telephone 01323 443322.
Litter picking equipment, refuse bags and waste collection services are only available to groups that have registered and added their event on the official Great British Spring Clean website www.greatbritishspringclean.org.uk .

Litter picking equipment is limited and will be issued on a first-come, first-served basis with priority given to groups that have not previously received equipment.  Groups will be supported with equipment for events occurring any time between mid-February and end of March.
