Free electric blanket testing in Wealden

News : 25 September 2017

East Sussex Fire and Rescue is holding free electric blanket testing sessions across Wealden this week.

Electric blanket testing sessions are taking place at the following locations from 10am -12pm or 2pm - 4pm:

Monday 25 September:       Eastbourne Fire Station (am);  St Johns Hall, Polegate (pm).
Tuesday 26 September:      Hailsham Fire Station (am);  Heathfield Fire Station (pm).
Wednesday 27 September: Uckfield Fire Station (am);  Crowborough Fire Station (pm).
Thursday 28 September:        Burwash Community Fire Station (pm)

Look out for symbols that show that the blanket has been independently tested and meets the latest UK and European safety standards.  ESFRS also advise that before you use an electric blanket this year, you make sure that it - or its power cable - doesn't show any danger signs. These include:
• scorch marks or discoloration areas are visible on the fabric of the blanket.
• wires are visible or poking through the fabric.
• fabric is frayed or worn.
• the control makes a buzzing sound when switched on or gives off a scorching smell.

If you are in any doubt about your blanket, contact the manufacturer before you use it to make sure that it is safe. It may need to be replaced.
