Refuse vehicle access Issues due to overgrown vegetation

News : 28 June 2017

Overgrown hedges and trees (particularly overhanging branches) at this time of year are a major cause of our Refuse Vehicles not being able to access certain roads.

Refuse Waste Vehicle Overhanging Vegetation

Often this vegetation is overhanging and causes damage to the vehicles and also prevents the driver from being able to use his mirrors, particularly when reversing.

Wealden District Council work closely with East Sussex Highways to ensure any problems with vegetation are resolved, however, we are unable to do so when this occurs on private or unadopted roads.

In these situations we rely strongly on residents cutting back any overhanging branches and overgrown hedges, on their property, to ensure collections can continue as scheduled.

If residents have concerns over access issues on public highways they can report these directly to East Sussex Highways (external link).

If residents need any help or guidance on this matter they can also contact recycling@wealden.gov.uk.
