Food Sampling

Wealden District Council Public Protection Team recognises the important contribution food sampling makes to the protection of Public Health and the Food Law Enforcement functions of the Authority.

We participate in sampling initiatives organised by the Local Authorities Coordinators of Regulatory Services (LACORS) and the Sussex Food Liaison Group. The sampling programme includes food and food contact surfaces at manufacturers, retailers and caterers.

Examples of previous sampling programmes have included sampling salads from fast food premises to monitor for cross contamination, and ready to eat shelled nuts from retail premises checked for microbiological safety.

Where unsatisfactory results are obtained further investigations are made and corrective action put in place to improve standards.
