Mutual Exchange Register

Are you a Wealden District Council Tenant and would you like to move to another Wealden District Council property? If so, you may be able to identify a property using the Mutual Exchange Register (pdf, 524kb).

Identify the Parish you want to move to (using the bookmarks within the document).

The Register is divided alphabetically into Parishes to make it easier to use. Therefore, for example if you want to move to Alderbrook or Jarvis Brook you will need to look in the Register under Crowborough (see list below).

Telephone the tenant listed on the Register

If there is no phone number listed please call the Housing Services Team on 01323 443363. We will contact the tenant of the property you are interested in and put them in touch

Contact the Council or Housing Association

When you have found another tenant to exchange with, contact your landlord.
If your landlord is the Council you can request the guidance notes and application form.

Return the application form

Please return the completed application form to your Housing Officer at the address below. If a Council tenant is exchanging with a housing association tenant, each tenant will have to fill in a form from both landlords.

Address:
Housing Services Wealden District Council
Vicarage Lane
Hailsham
East Sussex
BN27 2AX

Property Inspection

Each tenant will be visited by their respective landlord and a property inspection carried out, rent accounts will be checked and references will be exchanged by both landlords, if appropriate, giving details of the family and any special needs.

Decision is made

The landlord(s) will decide whether or not the application is approved. If the exchange is approved tenants will be notified and a suitable tenancy date established and each applicant will be informed in writing. If the exchange is refused by the landlord(s), the reason(s) for refusal will be given in writing.

It is essential that you do not move until the Council has given its permission in writing. Tenants who move without permission will be required to move back again.

After the mutual exchange has been approved in writing and you have a moving date, please contact the Housing Services Team on 01323 443363 who will remove the property you are moving to from the Register.

Housing Benefit

If you are on Housing Benefit, once your exchange has been approved, you will need to make a new application based on your new address immediately.

If you have problems downloading the Mutual Exchange Register or would like to talk to someone about a mutual exchange please contact either the Housing Services team on 01323 443363 or the Housing Allocations Team on 01323 443501.
