Welcome to Information Sharing

Welcome to the Information Sharing section. We are fully committed to meeting our statutory obligations under the Data Protection Act 1998, Freedom of Information Act 2000 as well as following the Code of Recommended Practice for Local Authorities on Data Transparency.

We aim to provide you with access to relevant and current information in a meaningful and reusable format.

Data Protection and Freedom of Information

Data Protection

The Data Protection Act 1998 establishes a framework of rights and duties which are designed to safeguard personal data. It ensures organisations manage the information they hold in a proper way. It also gives you rights to view the information held about you and to correct any information that is wrong.

Freedom of Information

The Freedom of Information (FOI) Act 2000 and Environmental Information Regulations (EIR) 2005 deal with official information held by public authorities in England, Northern Ireland and Wales. These regulations give people the right to request information held by public authorities. This 'right to know' allows you to access a range of recorded information held by the Council, such as emails, minutes of meetings, research or reports and is intended to promote a culture of openness and accountability.

Wealden District Council is committed to being open and transparent in the way it serves the public.

Publication Scheme

In order to fulfil our obligations set out in section 19 of The Freedom of Information Act 2000, Wealden has adopted the Information Commissioner's model publication scheme.
