The grants can be used to buy sporting equipment, coaching support, one-off projects and taster sessions. The grant can also help fund the day-to-day running costs of the club over the period November - March 2013.
"The Olympic values of respect, excellence and friendship should not just prevail at the Games in London, but here in Wealden's sporting communities during the years to come," said Councillor Johanna Howell, Wealden's Cabinet lead for the Community and Voluntary Sector.
"We would like to see these grants encourage more people to get involved in their local sporting groups and find satisfaction through improving their sporting prowess and their own fitness...particularly when recent medical research points to a lack of exercise as being the cause for the same number of premature deaths as smoking and obesity. An increased level of involvement in local sports would be a wonderful legacy from these Olympic Games."
The 2012 Legacy Sport and Activity Grants, ranging from £200 to £1000, are available to voluntary organisations, community groups, registered charities, not-for-profit organisations and Community Interest Companies. Commercial organisations and Town/Parish Councils cannot apply to this grant programme.
