The Armed Forces Day flag was raised at 11 am at Pine Grove on Monday 25 June. The Mayor of Crowborough, Cllr Michael Cooke, and the Royal British Legion attended the short ceremony which was presided over by the Chairman of Wealden District Council, Cllr Jonica Fox. Father Robert Norbury from St John's, Crowborough, gave a short reading and a Royal British Legion bugler sounded the Last Post and Reveille.
"Armed Forces Week is the opportunity to show our appreciation for the dedication and commitment shown by all those who serve or have served in Her Majesty's Armed Forces," said Chairman of Wealden District Council, Councillor Jonica Fox. "I have the greatest respect for the young men and women of the military who serve their country around the world, particularly in Afghanistan where some are, sadly, having to make the greatest sacrifice.
"I know the Armed Forces Day flag will be flying with pride from many flag poles in Wealden this week as we pay tribute to present and past members of the Army, Royal Navy and Royal Air Force."
Towns and parish councils are marking Armed Forces Week (external link) and holding their own ceremonies on Armed Forces Day, Saturday 30 June, which will include members of Wealden District Council.
The Armed Forced Day Flag will be lowered at Pine Grove on Monday 2 July.
