Beware Council Tax callers claiming to work for a private company

They claim that your Council Tax band has been revalued

We have had a number of enquiries from members of the public saying they have been telephoned by someone who says they are calling on behalf of a company employed by Wealden District Council, and claiming the householder is entitled to a reduction in their Council Tax Band.

Wealden District Council employs no such companies or other third parties to discuss council tax with householders.  Neither does the Valuation Office - the public agency responsible for council tax banding.

If you receive such approach form a private company, please inform Wealden District Council's Council Tax service on 01323 443385.

On no account should you give details of your personal bank account to a caller claiming to be working for a company employed by the Council's Council Tax service.
