What is Building Control?
The Building Control Service amongst other things administers the Building Regulations by the passing of plans and checking of building works on site.
In Wealden the Building Control Service deals with:
- Dangerous Structures (internal link)
- Demolitions
- Disability Access (internal link)
- Structural Design
- Building over Sewers - Drainage
- Local Acts
Changes as from 1st April 2011
As part of the transformation programme under implementation at Wealden District Council, and similar circumstances at Eastbourne Borough Council, the Building Control Services of Wealden and Eastbourne are forming a partnership to provide a shared service throughout both authorities.
The shared services now operate under the new branding of East Sussex Building Control Partnership as from 1st April 2011. The principal partner under the agreement will be Wealden, with the service being based provisionally at the Council Offices in Crowborough and ultimately in Hailsham after our planned office move in the Summer of 2012.
What buildings do the Building Regulations apply to?
Apart from electrical safety (domestic only), the regulations apply to all types of buildings ie offices, shops, houses, public assemblies, leisure facilities, public houses, restaurants etc.
There are however minor exemptions in relation to certain domestic structures (always check with the Building Control Authority if you are in any doubt)
How do I gain permission under the Building Regulations?
You can do this either by submitting a Full Plans or Building Notice application, a Regularisation Certificate or Double Glazing application.
How to I apply for Building Regulations Approval?
This can be done online via Wealden's Building Portal for all application types and where payment can be made online (currently not available). Alternatively, you can complete an application and submit hard copies via the postal system.
