Local Development Framework

The Local Development Framework (LDF) will consist of a collection of planning documents that will eventually supersede the Wealden Local Plan adopted in 1998 and the Non-statutory Wealden Local Plan approved in 2005.  The LDF will provide the framework for planning in Wealden.

Local Development Frameworks are based upon spatial planning and take into account other relevant strategies and programmes such as the Council's Sustainable Community Strategy.

The following information provides details of the documents that make up the LDF and whether they required or optional.  The image below also shows this information in graphical format.

The optional and required documents that make up the LDF, as detailed in the content of this page

Development Plan Documents (DPD's) (Requirement of the LDF)

Please also find a brief guide to the Production of a DPD (pdf)

  • The Core Strategy

The Core Strategy sets out the key elements of the planning framework for the Wealden District area, including the area within Wealden which is the South Downs National Park. All subsequent documents produced as part of the Local Development Framework (LDF) will build on the objectives set out in the Core Strategy. An Index of Submission and Supporting Documents is also available to view.
  • Strategic Sites

The Strategic Sites DPD identifies the key strategic sites for development which are central to the delivery of the Core Strategy. This will include allocation of housing, business and other sites required over the LDF period, detailing how they will be delivered, when and by whom, whilst ensuring that major new development delivers maximum benefit to the local community and the creation of sustainable communities.
