The Policy and Development section is primarily responsible for the preparation of planning policy documents for the District.

Local Development Framework

The Local Development Framework is a collection of planning documents, including;

We have now received the Inspectors interim findings by way of a letter dated the 5th March 2012 and schedule of recommended main modifications. It is now a requirement that the Council and National Park consult on all proposed modifications to the Core Strategy. Representations should be made on the prescribed representation form by no later than 5pm on Wednesday 13th June 2012. The documents and further details of the consultation are available on the Modifications to the Submission Core Strategy DPD section of our website.

We are currently inputting and analysing all responses to the Strategic Sites Issues and Options Consultation 2012

These will guide how development takes place in Wealden and eventually replace the current Local Plan.

Local Plan

Information concerning the current planning guidance that has been prepared by this Council, which includes the Adopted Wealden Local Plan 1998 and the Non Statutory Wealden Local Plan 2005.


South East Plan (external link)

The Secretary of State announced on 6th July 2010 the revocation of Regional Spatial Strategies including the South East Plan.

National Planning Policy Framework

You will be aware that the Government has recently published the National Planning Policy Framework. If you have any representations on the implications of changes in national policy in the Framework for the Wealden District (Incorporating Part of the South Downs National Park) Core Strategy they should be sent to Lynette Benton, Programme Officer, Wealden District Council, Pine Grove, Crowborough, East Sussex, TN6 1DH by Friday 18th May at 5pm.
