Building New Council Homes

Building New Homes

Changes in housing legislation have given Wealden District Council the opportunity to build new Council homes in the district.

Leap Close HailshamThe changes, outlined in the Localism Act 2011 and self-financing proposals, allow the Council to keep its rental income from Council Housing and invest it in new homes for local people.

The Council completed 64 new homes to rent in 2014 in Willingdon, Crowborough and Forest Row and 32 homes in Hailsham:

 

  • Grants Hill House Plans (pdf)
    The former Grants Hill House, has been demolished and in in the process of being replaced with 67 new Retirement Living apartments for rent. The building will include communal lounges, Guest Suite, Buggy Store and landscaped gardens. The project is due to complete late 2018.
  • Old Hop Gardens, St Mary's Avenue, Hailsham Plans (pdf)
    The former Elizabeth Court in Hailsham has been demolished and in the process of being replaced with 5 x 2 bedroom houses and 12 x 1 & 2 bedroom apartments to rent. The project is due to complete in 2018.
  • The Fridays East Dean (pdf)
    1 x 3 bedroom house, 1 x 2 bedroom house and 2 x 1 bedroom flats to rent are being built at The Fridays, East Dean. We anticipate that these homes will be completed in 2018.
