Car Parking - Pay a Parking Fine

The Excess Charge Notice (ECN) Fine is £60.  This will be reduced to £30 if paid within 14 days.   If payment is received after 14 days, the fine will remain at £60.

If you pay your parking fine within 14 days of the ECN being issued, the fine will be reduced to £30.

The image below shows an examples of two ECN's; one is a standard ECN issued by Community Officers, the second is an ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) ECN.  Both clearly show the ECN number, the cost of the fine, as explained above, vehicle details (including Registration Number) and state why the ECN has been issued.

Paying a Parking Fine Reminder (after 14 days of the ECN being issued)

If you fail to pay an ECN within 14 days of issue, we will obtain the details of the registered keeper from the DVLA.  We will then send a reminder to the registered keeper for £60 (the full ECN amount).

You can Pay a parking fine reminder online , or by any of the other methods below.

The image below shows an example of a reminder for £60 sent to the registered keeper of the vehicle, when an ECN remains unpaid for 14 days (and no request for an appeal has been received).  The reminder will include the details of the original ECN, including the ECN number, vehicle registration number and date and location of the parking offence.

Please note, credit card payments will incur a surcharge.

Pay online

Pay by Cheque

When paying by cheque, please ensure you:

  • Enclose the original ECN
  • Write the ECN number on the back of the cheque
  • Make cheques payable to 'Wealden District Council' and send it to the address at the bottom of the page.

Pay by Phone

We can take payments by Debit Cards (except Visa Electron) or Credit Cards over the phone.

Pay in Person

If your ECN starts with a '1' you may pay your fine by Debit or Credit Card (including Visa Electron) at our offices.  Please go to reception at the address below and remember to bring your ECN number.  If your ECN starts with an '8', these cannot be paid in person.

Failure to pay a Parking Fine

The Road Traffic Regulation 1984, Section 35 (A) makes it an offence to fail to pay this excess charge.

Failure to pay a parking fine will result in the Council's Debt Recovery Policy being implemented.
