Land Charges

The Council's Local Land Charges section is based at the Hailsham office and is responsible for the maintenance of the Land Charges Register together with processing local authority searches of the Register.

Returning Searches Electronically

Local Land Charges are able to return your search results electronically to you, provided an email address is supplied with your request.

Wealden District Council's Land Charges Team has won two awards for Customer Service at the 2016 Local Land Charges Awards for Excellence. The Land Charges team were joint winners of the Best Customer Experience Award and Highly commended for the Customer Satisfaction Award.

To win the Nation Land Information Services' Best Customer Experience Award, local authorities are asked LD-LLCAwards2016-Logo_Highly-Commended-Colourto demonstrate what value added processes they offer to make the land search process easier, helping everyone involved in the buying and selling property chain. The Customer Satisfaction Award is based on the votes of solicitors and conveyancers who work with local authorities across the country. Nearly 60 local authorities took part in this year's awards. Wealden shared the Best Customer Experience Award with the London Borough of Barnet.

The Best Customer Experience Award was presented to Wealden's Land Charges team leader Mandy Hockin by TV personality Mark Durden-Smith at an awards ceremony in Bristol and pays tribute to the work done by the team comprising of Mandy, Farrah Lucas, Zoe Wynn and Heather Constance.

Wealden District Council has a strong track record in the Local Land Charges awards. Its Land Charges team won the Best Customer Experience Award in 2015, were winners of the Best Electronic Service Delivery in 2012 and were the Best NLIS Local Land Charges Department in 2011.

A Land Charges search is made up of various parts. Searches can be submitted via 3 methods, or can take the form of a personal search.

Currently the Council is taking between 3 and 4 working days to complete searches.
