National Planning Policy and Guidance

Central Government currently sets out national planning policy in the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) and provides guidance through the National Planning Practice Guidance (NPPG).

National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF)

The National Planning Policy Framework was published on 27 March 2012. This is a key part of Government reforms to make the planning system less complex and more accessible, to protect the environment and to promote sustainable growth. As well as an "assertive" summarising of policy, the framework also proposes significant alterations to existing planning policy and guidance and the cancellation of existing Planning Policy statements and guidance notes (PPSs and PPGs).

Both the National Planning Policy Framework and Technical Guidance are available to download below. Further information can be found on the Department for Communities and Local Government Planning Portal website (external link)
