Wealden District Council

Sustainability Appraisal

A Sustainability Appraisal evaluates the social, economic and environmental impacts of policies and strategies in a Local Plan to ensure that the policies and strategies are in accordance with Sustainable Development objectives.

The Council is required to produce a Sustainability Appraisal (which also incorporates Strategic Environmental Assessment) for all of its policy documents except for the Statement of Community Involvement, Annual Monitoring Report, Community Infrastructure Levy and the Local Development Scheme.

Scoping Report

The Council's previous scoping report was approved in February 2007 and updated in 2009. This formed the basis for the Sustainability Appraisal of the Core Strategy Local Plan (February 2013) and the Affordable Housing Delivery Local Plan (March 2015).

As post of the review for the Wealden Local Plan, a new Sustainability Appraisal Scoping Report was prepared in May 2015 and was approved by the Council in July 2015. This updated the baseline information, planning legislation and guidance and resulted in the formation of 18 Sustainability Objectives against which the Wealden Local Plan and its policies will be assessed.
