Applications submitted for postal addresses for new developments and infill / single new properties must be accompanied by site plans clearly detailing the road layouts (if applicable) and plot numbers (minimum scale of 1:2500), along with the approved planning permission reference. Where there are to be blocks of flats, plans showing the floor layouts are also required.
Developers may suggest names for new streets which will be subject to consultation with the relevant Town or Parish Council.
Individual properties built on infill land, large gardens, or on the site of previously demolished properties, will be numbered within the existing sequence if possible, and letter suffixes (e.g. 16A) will be used where necessary. Where building takes place on the site of a demolished property, the new building will inherit the existing number.
The Council introduced charges for this service from 01 April 2011, details of which can be found in our Street Naming and Numbering Policy (pdf).
Use this form to apply for postal addresses for brand new properties where no new street is required.
Applicants must provide the planning application number and a site plan with plot numbers, along with full details of the location of the development. In roads where there is an existing numbering scheme, the NLPG Team will allocate new postal numbers (letter suffixes may be required in some cases). In roads where properties are named only, please provide your choice of house name/s. Suggested names should not conflict with any already in existence in the postal delivery area. It should be noted that first choices may not always be available.
Please allow 14 to 28 days for your application to be processed.
Please note that the fee to register one new postal address is £50. For two or more addresses there is a fee structure and the NLPG Department will contact you separately regarding this.
*Payments can be made via debit card (Maestro and Visa Debit) where no charge will apply or by credit card (Mastercard and Visa) where a 2% transaction charge will apply. American Express, Diners Club and Electron cards cannot be accepted.
