Remembrance Day

The Union Flag will be flown at Wealden District Council’s offices on Friday November 11 remembering those who gave their lives serving their country.

A two-minute silence will be observed at 11am on that day at the Council’s offices in Pine Grove, Crowborough, and at Vicarage Lane, in Hailsham. Activity will also cease, as far as practical, at the Freedom Leisure centres in Crowborough, Hailsham, Heathfield and Uckfield.

“November 11 is the day is which we remember the sacrifices of those who served in the two world wars last century and the other conflicts that have taken place since then,” said the Chairman of Wealden District Council, Councillor Mrs Pat Kennedy. “This August I had the honour of meeting and talking to service men and women who took part in the Second World War at the Wealden VE VJ Day Commemoration. It served to emphasise the debt we owe to those who never came back.”

Councillor Mrs Kennedy will be representing Wealden District Council at the Royal British Legion’s wreath laying and Service of Remembrance at Crowborough. The wreath laying takes place at the War Memorial at 2.30pm. on Sunday November 13.

Councillor Nick Ellwood will be representing the Wealden District Council at Hailsham’s wreath laying ceremony taking place at the Hailsham War Memorial at 10.30am on Sunday November 13.
