Work experience placements
For many years Wealden District Council has encouraged applications from schools and individuals for work experience placements.
The Council is keen to encourage such placements, which enable pupils to experience the discipline of work in one of the largest and most varied organisations in the Wealden area.
The majority of pupils who undertake work experience with the Council are studying in one of the main secondary schools within Wealden, although in recent years strong links have also been formed with schools in Kent.
Placements are mainly offered in the Council’s offices in Hailsham and Crowborough, although where appropriate pupils are also allowed to undertake work experience in the depots at Jarvis Brook and Amberstone.
Work experience placements usually last for one week and take place between early May and mid-July of each academic year. Changes have however been taking place in recent years and some schools now prefer to place pupils with the Council on a one-day-per-week basis for the whole academic year.
Occasionally it is also possible for students in further/higher education to undertake work experience with the Council. This usually takes the form of students joining the Council during the holidays to experience the work of a particular department, such as Environmental Health.
Any school work experience co-ordinator, pupil or student is welcome to contact the Council to discuss the possibility of work experience placements.

Wealden Education Business Partnership also works to improve opportunities for young people to experience the world of work.
