FULL COUNCIL

The Full Council is made up of all 55 Councillors and is responsible for the adoption of the budget and for deciding the Council's overall policies.

At the Annual meeting of the Council, the Chairman and Vice Chairman of the Council are elected for the following year.  The Leader is also elected and the size of the Cabinet is agreed.  The Members of the Cabinet are appointed to their portfolios on the advice of the Leader.  The composition of the Committees are agreed and appointments are made to them.

The Full Council meets six times a year.  The meetings are generally open to the public and are held in the Council Offices in Crowborough or Hailsham.  At the start of each Full Council meeting a period of 30 minutes is set aside for the public to ask questions of the Cabinet and present petitions.  For more information see Speaking at Meetings.

Members of the public are welcome to attend all meetings of the Council, its Cabinet, Committees and Sub-Committees.  Only meetings, or parts of meetings where confidential or other restricted information is being discussed, are not open to the public. 

Council meetings are normally held during the day and take place in either the Council Offices in Pine Grove , Crowborough or Vicarage Lane , Hailsham.  The Calendar details all Council meetings for the year.  Public notice is given in advance of all District Council meetings including whether or not they are open to the public.
